Why is your organization important to the community?
Through our shelter and other services, more than 8,000 individuals benefit-many receiving the support they need to lead healthy, independent lives. As the only domestic violence shelter in Johnson County, and the largest in the state of Kansas, Safehome strives to break the cycle of domestic violence and partner abuse for victims and their children in our community.

What’s the story behind your organization?
40 years ago, a Johnson County native named Martha Hunt offered a safe haven for a neighbor being battered by her husband. Since then, our mission has been the same-to provide safety and hope to those facing partner abuse.
Our core purpose is to provide a healing atmosphere where survivors of domestic violence can gain inner strength, explore options, and be empowered to live a life free of abuse.

Who do you support?
Domestic violence can happen to anyone, of any race, religion, gender, sexual-orientation, age, or socioeconomic status. Safehome supports survivors of abuse and their children to live a life free from abuse.

How many volunteers do you currently have (estimate)?

250
