A client certification is a formal, legally required statement that an organization or employer (i.e., the client) submits to a consumer reporting agency (“CRA”) before obtaining a consumer report. The client certification is typically embedded in a service agreement where the client legally certifies their permissible purpose, that they have a provided a clear, conspicuous standalone written disclosure to the applicant and obtained written authorization, that they will follow adverse action requirements, and that they will not violate any federal or state equal opportunity laws or regulations.
