Mike Fowler of Validity Screening Solutions to Present to SHRMJC
The Risks of Engaging Social Media in the Hiring Process
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (April 9, 2015) – Mike Fowler, Validity Screening Solutions, will present to SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) Johnson County members on the risks and compliance issues associated with using social media throughout the pre-employment process of recruiting and hiring.
While it may be quick and easy, there can be significant ramifications to using social networks in the employment screening or investigative process. Several federal laws including the FCRA, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, and even GINA govern the use of social media both before and after hiring. Mike’s presentation will highlight the risks involved when employers incorporate social media as part of the hiring process.
Attendees can expect to learn how to define “Social Network Background Checks” as outlined by the Federal Trade Commission, how to avoid FCRA violations made when information is obtained from social media, and how to understand the EEOC’s view on social information impacting employment.
This presentation will be held at the April SHRMJC breakfast meeting on April 16, 2015 at the Ritz Charles Conference Facility in Overland Park, Kan. at 7:30am.
