Among the vast amount of education from the Drug & Alcohol Testing Industry Association’s (DATIA) 2018 New Orleans Conference, one of the many highlights was listening to Peter Bensinger speak about the trends in drug availability and federal drug policy. Mr. Bensinger served as the Administrator of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and is a nationally recognized expert on the issues of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. He spoke candidly about the opioid crisis and the latest federal initiatives surrounding drug policy. His perspective was invaluable and provoked thought amongst those who attended his lecture.
The DATIA conference was jam-packed with knowledge from drug testing policies and procedures, to better understanding statutes and regulations that affect those policies, discussions about the daily rigors of a Medical Review Officer (MRO), and how medically assisted treatment in drug courts is impacting testing.
DATIA was founded in 1995 and is the national voice for the entire spectrum of drug and alcohol service providers. DATIA and its many presenters did a tremendous job of providing each of its attendees with knowledge and perspectives that will certainly be useful in each of our respective roles.
